Following a two month hiatus, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge returned to action at the recently upgraded Queensland Raceway spearheaded by opening round winner Ryan Wood and Madeline Stewart.
Kiwi Wood took two wins on his Australian debut at Sydney Motorsport Park as a rivalry develops with CHE Racing’s Tom Sargent for this year’s Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge title.
This continued at EBM’s home circuit at Queensland Raceway where Wood took the ascendency early by taking pole position by the smallest of margins, just 0.061s.
The margin between the leading two contenders remained at under a second during the weekend’s three races, with Wood finishing runner up each. His best opportunity came during the round-ending 45 minute enduro where Wood gave Sargent a couple of taps, but was unable to find a way past.
Stewart enjoyed a career best round at her adopted home track where her New Zealand-based grandparents made the trip to watch her for the first time.
Finishing fifth in Race 1, Stewart completed a consistent weekend in sixth and seventh to back up her opening round performance in Sydney.
Preparations now turn to the third round of Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge at Sandown on September 16-18, with Wood second in the standings and Stewart sixth.
